Dr. Douglas Cottingham is originally from Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and is committed to providing compassionate, high-quality dental care to every patient he meets. He graduated from Berkeley High School in 1994 and went on to attend Clemson University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1999 and a Master of Professional Accountancy in 2000.
He began his career with Arthur Anderson, L.P. in Columbia before relocating to Charleston when his wife, Dr. Sarah Stevenson Cottingham, started medical school. While in Charleston, Dr. Cottingham worked at Pratt-Thomas, Gumb, & Company, a local accounting firm. During this time, he felt drawn to explore other career paths and dentistry—something that had always appealed to him—became the clear choice. After shadowing several dentists in the area, he followed his calling and enrolled in MUSC’s College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Cottingham earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2010, graduating with honors and receiving the Quintessence Award for Achievement in Restorative Dentistry.
He has a long history of community involvement, volunteering with organizations such as Give Kids a Smile, the Special Olympics, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. He is a proud member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Dental Education Association.
Dr. Cottingham’s wife is a physician at Lexington Medical Center. When they are not caring for patients, they enjoy spending time with their children, Mac and Lila, and their dog, Millie. He is an avid golfer, a music lover, and someone who appreciates every opportunity to get outside and spend time amongst family and friends.
Certified Dental Assistant & Operations Manager Amanda is a Columbia native who has been dedicated to the dental field for more than two decades. She graduated from Midlands Technical College in 2002 as a Certified Dental Assistant and has been passionate about providing excellent patient care ever since. She joined Cottingham Family Dentistry in 2013 as a CDA and is also the Operations Manager now for the office. Amanda has been married to her husband since September 2003. Together, they have two children who are ten years apart—and being a mom is one of her greatest joys. Outside of the office, Amanda loves iced coffee, thrifting for unique finds, and connecting with people. She values building relationships with patients, making them feel comfortable, heard, and genuinely cared for at every visit.
Registered Dental HygienistGrace is a Blythewood, South Carolina native with a lifelong passion for helping others feel comfortable and cared for in the dental chair. She married her high school sweetheart in 2011 and moved to Columbia, where they are now raising their daughter. Grace graduated from Midlands Technical College as both an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant and a Registered Dental Assistant. She joined Cottingham Family Dentistry in 2014 and has been a valued member of the team ever since. Grace and her family love traveling and spending time together, and her favorite place to visit is Disney World. In her work, she feels especially accomplished when she can help patients overcome negative past experiences and leave feeling relaxed, confident, and well cared for.
Registered Dental HygienistKatie is originally from Texas and began her career in dentistry after attending Fayetteville Technical Community College in North Carolina, where she earned her degree in Dental Hygiene in 2007. With nearly two decades of experience, she is passionate about helping patients feel comfortable, informed, and confident in their oral health. Katie has been married to her husband for over 20 years, and together they have two children. Her husband is retired military, and their family had the opportunity to live in several places throughout his service—her favorite duty station being their time in Belgium, where they enjoyed the culture, travel, and community. Seven years ago, Katie and her family made Columbia their home, and she joined our practice in August of 2025. Outside of the office, Katie enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.
Registered Dental HygienistMargi was born in Baltimore, where she also attended dental hygiene school, laying the foundation for her long and dedicated career in dentistry. She has called Columbia home since 1989 and has become a familiar, friendly presence to generations of patients. Margi joined Cottingham Family Dentistry in 2015. She has been married to her husband since 1989 and they have two children and a sweet granddaughter, who brings endless joy to their lives. When she’s not spending time with her granddaughter, she loves being with her dogs. Margi also enjoys cooking for her family and friends, creating meals that bring everyone together. She and her family are avid Gamecock fans who rarely miss a chance to cheer on their team. Margi’s strong clinical background and genuine love for people make her a valued member of the dental team and a favorite among patients.
Front Desk & Dental AssistantMegan is a proud Lexington, South Carolina native with a strong background in healthcare and a passion for helping patients feel at ease. She has worked in the healthcare field since 2012 and brought her experience and warm personality to Cottingham Family Dentistry in 2023. At the office, Megan works both chairside and at the front desk, giving her a well-rounded understanding of patient care and office flow. Megan married her husband in 2017, and together they are raising two sons. Their household is a diehard Broncos family, always ready to cheer on their team.
Front Desk & Insurance Coordinator Rachel was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. She began her studies at Greensboro College before transferring to Charleston Southern University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Communication in 2014. Rachel joined Cottingham Family Dentistry in 2021 where she works in the front office. Rachel met her husband, before moving to Columbia in 2015, and the two married in 2017. Professionally, she has worked extensively in insurance across both the medical and dental fields, giving her a strong understanding of patient needs and how to help them navigate their coverage with ease. Outside the office, Rachel has a deep passion for animals and cherishes time spent with her family.
